I'd like to apologise for not posting in a week. There just don't seem to be enough hours in the day sometimes. I won't even try to make any excuses. Mother's day weekend was a lot of fun but not good for my weight loss program. The celebration started early with a Friday night cookout at our neighbors house. Lots of wonderfully fattening food, 12 beers, and my share of a bottle of tequila, left me with a terrible hang over Saturday.
I ended up laying around the house all day asking myself why in the world I drank all of that alcohol. So Saturday was a total wash out. Sunday, I made the wife breakfast in bed, complete with pancakes, bacon, and a cheese omelet. Of course, I ate my fair share of it. The rest of the day was filled with more eating and a big chocolate cake to boot. I did manage to squeeze in 200 sit ups mostly out of guilt.
Monday morning I stepped on the scales and had gained almost 5 pounds. I was 321 even.
Needless to say I was seriously regretting my fun, lethargic weekend. All this week I have doubled my efforts and have been working hard with the exercise. I rode the bike 2 times every day and did at least 300 sit ups every day. I did the "Yoga For Weight loss" on Monday and Wednesday. Thankfully, my efforts have payed off. I lost all of the extra I had gained and managed to to surpass my mark from last Thursday morning.
Today's official weigh in: 315.4 lbs. That's 3.6 lbs for the month and 34.6 lbs for the year.
I should be back on schedule with things and will be able to continue making my daily posts again.
I really like doing the cardio first thing in the morning. It is tough to make myself do it but as soon as I get on the bike and start pedaling, I'm totally into it. It is normally nice and cool in the morning and not to breezy. When I finish, I feel energized and the feeling lasts pretty much all through the day. The best part is that I continue to lose weight.
Today's official weigh in: 316.8 lbs. That's 2.2 lbs for the month and 33.2 lbs for the year.
I rode the bike 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles after dinner yesterday. I also did a total of 300 sit ups. The eating routine was pretty much the same. Cereal for breakfast, fruit for my 2 snacks, I had celery sticks with peanut butter for lunch and homemade vegetable soup for dinner. I also had a real small piece of chocolate cake for desert and popcorn for an evening snack.
Yesterday I got up early again and did 2 miles on the bike. I also did 200 sit ups before i went to work. I did the same thing after dinner.
Today's official weigh in: 317.4 lbs. That's 1.6 lbs for the month and 32.4 lbs for the year.
I had Special K for breakfast, a pear for mid-morning snack, baby carrots for lunch, an apple for mid-afternoon snack, and turkey with mixed veggies for dinner. I had popcorn for my evening snack but I also cheated and had 6 Oreo cookies. Hey…we all have our weak moments.
I resumed my test with the early morning cardio yesterday. I got up and did 2 miles on the bike. Then I knocked out 200 sit ups on the Ab Roller. I also rode the bike another 2 miles after dinner, but didn't do any more sit ups.
Today's weigh in: 317.6 lbs. That's 1.4 lbs for the month and 32.4 lbs for the year.
Yesterday I had cereal for breakfast, an apple for mid morning and mid afternoon snack, and a pork chop for lunch. For dinner my wife made a Venezuelan dish that is rice with seafood, mushrooms, green peepers, onions, cilantro, and who knows what.
Yummmmmm, Yummmmm, I couldn't help myself…I ate 2 big bowl fulls.
I think that portion control is one of the major factors in a successful weight loss program. If you have been following this blog, you know that I still eat things that people consider to be very fattening. The difference is that instead of eating 2 plate fulls of lasagna, I only eat half a plate full and fill up on veggies. If you are consistent with your portion control, you will find that you become accustomed to just eating a little and don't feel as hungry.
If it is really hard for you to control yourself in the beginning, you may want to try using Hoodia Gordonii like I do. That has always been my biggest problem. When I was growing up, we always ate very little during the day and then pigged out at dinner. It is hard to break old habits. Hoodia keeps me from feeling starved and when I do eat a little, I feel full quickly.
I continue to struggle with the weight loss program on the weekends. There are just way to many distractions and temptations. The good news is, I didn't gain any weight.
Today's weigh in: 318 lbs straight up. No change from Friday morning.
Actually, I feel pretty good about it all considered. Sunday I did absolutely nothing but lie around and watch TV. Well we did go to the pool and lie around for a couple of hours and I sat in the jacuzzi. The truth of the matter is that my bad back was acting up yesterday, so I took it easy.
Saturday was pretty busy. I did do my sit ups and rode the bike 2 miles but it was later in the day and not when I first got up. So much for the test I am doing for the morning cardio. No big deal, I got up early this morning and put in my 2 miles, so the test continues.
I did quite a bit of eating this weekend but nothing drastic. Yesterday we did go to Sweet Tomato all you can eat buffet, but these days, my stomach has gotten used to eating small portions and I was stuffed after 2 plates of salad. I did have a small bowl of frozen yogurt, but that was it.
Saturday we had barbecued pork chops and macaroni and cheese. I limited myself to just 2 pork chops and a normal sized portion of mac and cheese. In the old days I would have eaten 4 pork chops and a huge bowl of mac and cheese. Several months of eating "small" is starting to make an impression.
Remember, losing weight is about changing your life style. If you don't change your life style, the weight is going to come back. Natural weight loss is gradual weight loss.
The problem that I have on the week ends is that I don't have a set routine. Especially when the family and I get out and about. I don't drink enough water, like I do during the week, and I don't eat a small snack every few hours. I am convinced that this is the problem, but as long as I am losing weight during the week I'm happy. After all…I have lost over 30 lbs so far this year.
